The Epic Egg

For the season of Eastertide (ending on Pentecost Sunday: May 19th), we are holding our annual Epic Egg Hunt after service each Sunday. This is a chance for kids 11 and under to all search for one hidden egg and have a tangible reminder of the fact that Easter is not just a day, but a season! We will give a hint on where to find the egg at the end of service each week.

The Canterbury House Presents: Music and Empathy

Sunday, May 19 / The Celebration Hall / 9:30-10:30am

Hosted by Randy Lemke

In an era of increasing division, it seems everyone in our culture - but most notably and perhaps surprisingly Christians - are becoming defined by who they hate and who hates them. It's as though each group in our culture lives in their own unique world disconnected from the others. If we can't see into the worlds around us, perhaps we can "hear" into it. This session will be an exploration of seeing and hearing and relating to one another in our Christian community through the deliberate practice of seeking out perspectives that are different from our own as they are expressed through the craft of songwriting. Part music lesson, part listening exercise, and part spiritual and psychological reflection - the intention is to call our community toward a deeper practice of engaging with lives that are different from our own without losing our own Gospel-centered identity. All this, while enjoying and learning about some of the most moving songs ever written. Come join us!

The Canterbury House: A Comparative Study on Zen Buddhism Architecture and Christian Architecture

The Canterbury House
April 14 and 21st / First Half
Daniel Lei

The best preservation of architecture is often found in temples and churches because they are regarded as divine buildings that humankind is not supposed to interfere with. Zen Buddhist architecture is based on the temples found in China and Japan. They represent the Chinese and Japanese architecture of the high end (temples and palaces). Christian Architecture is practically the history of Western Architecture but mostly focused on the cathedrals of Catholicism. This seminar offers a brief comparison between Eastern and Western architectural traditions.
